Salem police are looking for a man they say beat his girlfriend and dragged her nearly 400 feet from a car yesterday.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a young couple got into an argument while driving down Federal Street, near North Street, said Salem police Sergeant Marc Berube. The male stopped the car and began beating his 18-year-old girlfriend, according to police.

A witness walked over to the car, attempting to help the woman, Berube said. The woman tried to exit the car, but got her left leg stuck between the seat and door. When the witness approached, the assailant drove off, dragging his girlfriend 393 feet.

At this point, the woman broke free. The man then drove over her left arm and fled.

Officers found the woman with visible injuries on her face, and road rash on the right side of her body. Her left arm was broken where the car ran it over, Berube said.

Salem police have an arrest warrant for Daniel Rodriguez, 22, of Boston, but have not located him, partly because they are not sure if the Jamaica Plain address they have on file for him is correct, Berube said.
