A man’s body was found in the Cape Cod Canal today after he climbed over the fencing along the Bourne Bridge and jumped to his death, State Police said.

The death of the 41-year-old Wareham man is considered a probable suicide, State Police said in a statement.

According to State Police, a civilian told troopers they saw a man scaling the fence. As troopers and police were being dispatched, the man jumped, State Police said.

His body was recovered by the members of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

There was no evidence he suffered injuries other than those he sustained in falling from the bridge, State Police said. The man’s car was located near the bridge, State Police said.

State Police said they do not routinely identify people who commit suicide and will not be releasing any more information.
