Town of Holden is No. 1 in terms of snow

The town of Holden was the most snowstruck from today’s storm, logging 24.4 inches of snowfall, with Weymouth following close behind with 24.1 inches, according to reports collected by the National Weather Service.

Clinton came in third with 23.4 inches. Rounding out the top 10 were Randolph (23.0), Worcester Airport (22.8), Walpole (22.7), Dracut (22.1), Canton (21.8), Rockland (21.5), and Sterling (21.3).

William Babcock, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service of Taunton, said hilly areas were generally more suspectible to higher snow accumulations.

“Air flowing up over those hills will wring out a little more snowfall and snow accumulation,” Babcock said.

As of 1 p.m., 12.8 inches were recorded for the storm at Logan International Airport, including 10.2 inches that fell since midnight, which broke the record for March 8. With 14.9 inches falling since midnight alone, Worcester also broke a record.

Babcock expects the flakes to taper off this evening and temperatures to rise to the low to mid-40s this weekend.
