Enjoy this morning’s sunshine while it lasts.
The National Weather Service says clouds will move in and drop a mix of snow and rain by early afternoon as another fast-moving weather system passes through the region.
Most of the precipitation will be rain south of the Massachusettts Turnpike, but north of the Pike snow is expected, forecasters said.
A weather service snowfall forecast map shows less than an inch of snow all the way from the coast to Interstate 495 and in areas south of the Turnpike. But areas in far Western Massachusetts and an area in northern Central Massachusetts are expected to get up to 4 inches.
Motorists should look out this afternoon because a period of freezing rain may begin falling along the rain-snow line, forecasters said.
The precipitation will let up during the evening and skies will clear after midnight.
