Alan G. Macdonald is retiring after serving for the past 23 years as the executive director of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, roundtable officials said today.

Macdonald will serve as president emeritus of the Business Roundtable, which defines its mission as strengthening the Bay State’s economic vitality. JD Chesloff, who has served as deputy director for the past seven years, was named as the new executive director.

“Alan Macdonald’s work on education, pension, transportation, and health care reform, as well as his contributions on business investment, taxation, and energy issues have made Massachusetts a better place to live, work, and raise a family,” Donna Cupelo, MBR Board chair and region president of Verizon New England said in a statement.
