Verizon buys CloudSwitch
Verizon Communications Inc. said today that it has bought CloudSwitch, a 30-employee Burlington company that specializes in cloud software technology, for an undisclosed amount.
Many businesses, including Verizon business customers, are interested in using cloud-based storage and server horsepower because of the cost savings and flexibility they offer. The term cloud computing refers to off-site, pay-as-you-go services operated by a third party.
But moving to the cloud presents challenges. Some software that businesses use may have to be rewritten, and sometimes changes need to be made to a company’s information-technology infrastructure. Businesses looking to move operations to the cloud could also be concerned about security issues.
According to Verizon, CloudSwitch offers technology that will make it far easier for Verizon business customers to securely transition operations to the cloud.
In a press release, Verizon said it plans to combine CloudSwitch with its Terremark IT services subsidiary to further accelerate Verizon’s global cloud strategy.
