Tommy Bahama turns to PTC

It’s not always easy being a lifestyle brand these days. To stay abreast of the ever-changing whims of fashion, a retailer needs to be nimble, updating designs in a heart beat and squeezing the most efficiencies out of the supply chain so a beachgoer doesn’t get caught embarrassing himself by having to wear a Hawaiian shirt that’s so last year.
In pursuit of nimbleness, Tommy Bahama has turned to Parametric Technology Corp. --- a.k.a. PTC. A lifestyle brand whose motto is, “Make life one long weekend,” Tommy Bahama will use PTC’s PTC FlexPLM software “to improve operational efficiencies by enabling seamless supply chain collaboration,” PTC said in a press release.
Based in Needham, PTC specializes in software focused on product lifecycle management.
And now lifestyle will meet lifecycle as Tommy Bahama plans to put that lifecycle-management software to work in pursuit of designing the trendiest Hawaiian shirts as well as such home items as the martini shakers and tea light holders that complement the company’s apparel line.
PTC’s software aims not only to help designers collaborate on new products more quickly, but it also helps to get those products into stores and catalogs well before a fashion trend has cooled.
