The Boston Fire Department’s boat, The Firefighter, created a rainbow as it escorted the United States Coast Guard’s tall ship, USS Eagle, into Boston Harbor today.

The Eagle was built 75 years ago and is currently on a celebratory cruise . The public can tour the Eagle, which the Coast Guard calls “America’s Tall Ship,’’ today and on the weekend.

The ship is berthed at the Charlestown Navy Yard. Hours today are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Eagle was built in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg and was taken by the United States as a war reparation following World War II. It has served as a Coast Guard training vessel since 1946 and has a crew of six officers and 50 enlisted personnel.
