A Revere man was arrested early this morning in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Reading man last Monday, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.

John Burke, 25, was charged with first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone’s office.

“We allege that this defendant intentionally and purposefully shot the victim numerous times with the intent to kill him over what appears to be a drug-related dispute,” said Leone in a statement.

The victim, 22-year-old Joseph Ronan, was gunned down in his home on Lawrence Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, officials believe that Burke arranged to meet Ronan at his home and shot him multiple times upon entering, according to the statement.

Burke will be arraigned Monday in Woburn District Court.
