Accident in O’Neill Tunnel damages six light fixtures, official says
A limousine traveling in the Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. Tunnel tonight was struck by a light that fell from the ceiling after another vehicle on top of a carrier truck struck multiple lights inside the tunnel, State Police said. No injuries were reported.
State Police said the incident occurred near the southbound entrance to the tunnel shortly after 6:30 p.m.
A spokeswoman for Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey said in an email that six light fixtures were damaged and had to be removed.
A portion of the middle lanes near the entrance was closed to traffic at about 7:15 p.m. while crews worked in the area. The lanes were reopened at 8 p.m., said Sara Lavoie, a spokeswoman for Davey.
A State Police spokesman said the windshield of the Cadillac limousine was cracked but the operator was able to drive away from the scene.
