November expected to break temperature records in Mass.
It’s not quite over yet, but it appears November will go down in the record books for unseasonable warmth in Massachusetts, forecasters say.
In Worcester, it will be the warmest November ever recorded, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson.
The average temperature in Worcester so far this month is 46.3, beating the previous record of 45.9 in 2006, and 5.6 degrees above normal, said Simpson.
In Boston, it appears this month will be the second warmest November recorded, Simpson said. Average temperatures in the city will likely end up around 50, falling just below the record of 51.8.
Even at second place, the city is 4.9 degrees above normal for the month, Simpson said, with average high temperatures reaching 58.1.
Boston and Worcester are the only two cities with consistent temperature records in Massachusetts, Simpson said.
Today will continue Boston’s warm streak, with high temperatures reaching about 63. There will be very scattered showers in the afternoon, Simpson said, but most of the rain will happen overnight, clearing up by Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, the last day of the month, cloudy skies will give way to partly sunny conditions and temperatures in the mid-50s – still above normal for the last day of November.
