A 19-year-old Andover man allegedly punctuated the end of a Super Bowl party at the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Boston by beating two other men with a pistol, authorities said today.

Kevin S. Macartney pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court to two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Bail was set at $5,000 cash, according to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office.

According to Boston police and prosecutors, two 19-year-old men approached Boston police around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and reported they had been attacked by a man they thought was armed with a handgun. Both victims reported they were accused by partygoers of stealing some liquor and were then struck in the head as they left a Super Bowl party at the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton, police said.

Police returned to the building, where officers spotted a group of people still in the lobby, one of whom was Macartney, authorities said. The two alleged victims identified Macartney as their attacker, police said.

As they investigated, police found suspected bloodstains in the lobby, on an elevator, and on an upper-floor hallway rug running back to the unit where the party was held. Inside, police also found bloodstains.

The unit was closed to the public by police while they obtained a search warrant.

Macartney did not face any gun-related charges because no gun was recovered and there was no evidence that a gun had been fired, prosecutors said.

However, prosecutors said, officers did find 21 pills in an unmarked bottle that police suspect are Oxycodone, Focalin, and Alprazolam.
