DiMasi moved again, this time to a detention center in Rhode Island
Former House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, who has been listed as being “in transit” since he was removed from a Brooklyn, N.Y., detention center on Friday, is now being held at the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls, R.I., which is located about an hour from the US District Court in Worcester, according to a person with knowledge of his movements who is not authorized to speak on the case.
DiMasi is expected to appear before a grand jury investigating the alleged rigged hiring and promotion policies in the state probation department. DiMasi, who is serving an eight-year sentence for corruption in a Kentucky prison, was moved to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn last week.
DiMasi’s lawyer in the federal corruption case, Thomas R. Kiley, would not confirm that DiMasi is at Wyatt.
If DiMasi refused to answer prosecutors’ questions, they could grant him immunity and force him to. If he still refused, he could be found in contempt and prosecutors could seek to add time to his sentence.
