The young woman who was shot on Sunday night in Mattapan succumbed to her injuries today, making her the second person to die from gunfire in the city over the holiday weekend, police said.

Keisha Gilmore, 25, of Boston, was shot at about 9 p.m. on Alabama Street as she sat in a car, according to Boston police. Her relatives could not immediately be reached for comment.

The other shooting victim, a man in his early 20s whom police did not identify, was fatally shot about a half hour later Sunday in Blackstone Square Park in the South End.

Boston police Officer Nicole Grant, a department spokesman, said tonight that no arrests have been made in either slaying. She had no information on potential motives in either case.

With a uniformed police officer looking on, about 20 people gathered today near the scene of the South End shooting, leaving candles, a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap, and balloons that said “RIP Humz,” among other messages.

A friend of the man said the victim, whom he declined to name, recorded hip-hop music under that alias.

“Just living his life, young kid, no worries,” said the friend, who would not give his name. “You get dragged into [stuff] just living out here.”

A police official said on Sunday that the victim lived in the Villa Victoria development.

In September, Alex Sierra, 18, a Villa Victoria resident with no gang ties, was fatally shot by a teenaged gang member for simply saying that he lived in the development, which was linked to a gang feuding with the gunman’s, according to prosecutors.

The South End and Mattapan killings were the city’s third and fourth homicides this year, police said.

Authorities urge anyone with information about either shooting to contact detectives at 617-313-4470. Members of the public can also call the department’s anonymous tipline at 1-800-494-TIPS.

In addition, tipsters can text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463) on their cellphones.
