Brown to attend Houston’s funeral
On the same day Whitney Houston is being laid to rest at an invite-only funeral in New Jersey, her ex-husband Bobby Brown will perform at Mohegan Sun. But Brown said tonight that he will attend Saturday’s funeral before joining his New Edition bandmates Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill onstage at the Connecticut casino. Although some celebrity websites had reported that Brown would not be invited to the funeral, Houston publicist Kristen Foster said yesterday that an invitation did indeed go out to Brown. The funeral will be streamed live on the Internet so fans around the world can watch. Aretha Franklin will sing at her goddaughter’s funeral, as will Stevie Wonder, and Oprah Winfrey and Kevin Costner, Houston’s costar in ‘‘The Bodyguard,’’ are expected to be among the celebrity mourners in attendance. Houston, 48, died Saturday in a hotel room in Beverly Hills, Calif.
