Obama to host ‘Twitter Town Hall’ today

President Obama speaks to reporters yesterday in the White House Briefing Room about his debt and deficit negotiations with Congress. Today, in the East Room, he will field questions from the public about the economy and job creation via a “Twitter Town Hall.”
President Obama traveled to California in April for a town hall meeting with Facebook users at the social media company’s headquarters. Today, he’ll simply walk into the White House East Room for a town hall meeting with devotees of another social medium, Twitter.
The president’s first-ever “Twitter Town Hall” at 2 p.m. EDT is aimed at discussing the economy and job creation, but what other ground will be covered will depend on the tweets selected.
White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said yesterday “thousands and thousands” of proposed questions have already been tweeted with the #AskObama hashtag.
The “winners” will be culled by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder and executive chairman, who will relay them to the president for an oral answer - not limited to Twitter’s usual 140-character, typed format.
Check back to “Political Intelligence” at 2 p.m., when I will be live-tweeting coverage of the event.
Boston.com also asks that local residents add the secondary #boston hashtag to the primary #AskObama hashtag so our producers can track questions and comments from the area and find out what’s on your mind.
