DVD - TV Movie
A Raisin in the Sun
It's been almost 50 years since Lorraine Hansberry's drama of racism and redemption debuted on Broadway, and this TV drama mines its timeless themes for a new generation. As Walter Lee Younger, a man desperate to better his family's fortunes, Sean Combs is more streetwise and petulant than the sublime Sidney Poitier as Younger in the 1961 movie. Most expressive is Audra McDonald as Younger's long-suffering wife.

And speaking of a little help from friends: "Hymn for My Soul" has soulful and moody covers of "Beware of Darkness" (George Harrison), "You Haven't Done Nothin' " (Stevie Wonder), "Long As I Can See the Light" (John Fogerty), and "Ring Them Bells," (Bob Dylan) accompanied by some of the industry's best studio musicians.

Video games - Adventure
Myst
Nintendo DS (Empire Interactive)
One of the best games of all time comes to Nintendo DS in the United States with enhanced video and graphics. When Myst burst on the PC gaming scene in 1993, it was like nothing ever seen before - players moved through a mysterious evocative landscape solving puzzles to win access to even more strange new worlds. There was a (shocking!) absence of guns, monsters, and explosions. The Nintendo DS edition has a new "Rime Age," an Artic world that players can explore with the system's dual screens and new mini tools such as a camera, magnifying glass, notebook, and map.

Books - Memoir
The Prince of Frogtown
Rick Bragg (KNOPF)
The author of hardscrabble memoirs about his East Alabama family history ("All Over but the Shoutin'," "Ava's Man") returns to his Jacksonville, Ala., roots and the poor neighborhood called Frogtown, where his alcoholic father grew up. Rick Bragg, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, matches tales of his father's past with stories of his struggles to forge a relationship with his stepson amid ruminations on father-son relationships.
