A place known for its bones is a fitting spot for mystery writers to congregate. The fact that those bones are covered in delicious barbecue sauce makes it even more appealing. Murder Underbones, a new series of book-release parties for mystery and thriller writers, kicks off tonight at Redbones with Arlington's Gary Braver, who will read from and sign copies of his Boston-based medical mystery "Skin Deep." The series, cohosted by Kate's Mystery Books, continues on Aug. 19 with Cambridge author Linda Barnes, whose newest Carlotta Carlyle mystery is "Lie Down With the Devil." Free appetizers will be served - we're hoping tasty bones will be among them. 5:30-7 p.m. Free (Braver's book is $25.95). Redbones, 55 Chester St., Davis Square, Somerville. 617-628-2200. redbones.com
