Englishman Will Truesdale arrives in Hong Kong in 1942 and falls head over heels for Trudy Liang, a Eurasian socialite. When the Japanese invade, Truesdale is sent to an internment camp. Years later, a piano teacher arrives in Hong Kong, falls for Truesdale, and discovers his tumultuous past. According to Publishers Weekly, "The Piano Teacher: A Novel" by Janice Y. K. Lee "delivers a standout debut dealing with the rigors of love and survival during a time of war, and the consequences of choices made under duress." The former Elle editor and Harvard alum will read from her debut novel, participate in a Q&A, and sign copies of her book. 7 p.m. Free. Harvard Book Store, 1256 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge. 617-661-1515. www.harvard.com/events
