Love and war

Englishman Will Truesdale arrives in Hong Kong in 1942 and falls head over heels for Trudy Liang, a Eurasian socialite. When the Japanese invade, Truesdale is sent to an internment camp. Years later, a piano teacher arrives in Hong Kong, falls for Truesdale, and discovers his tumultuous past. According to Publishers Weekly, "The Piano Teacher: A Novel" by Janice Y. K. Lee "delivers a standout debut dealing with the rigors of love and survival during a time of war, and the consequences of choices made under duress."
