Everybody who knew her considered Emily Mehlman an extraordinary cook and fabulous baker. Mehlman’s hospitality extended beyond friends and family to the community of Temple Israel Boston where her husband, Bernard, is Rabbi Emeritus, and to visitors from around the world. After she died four years ago, 12 women from the congregation created “Emily’s Table’’ to honor their beloved friend. The cookbook ($18) contains recipes for food they enjoyed around her table, which she had gathered from many sources (including the Globe). Mehlman’s niece, Laura Bramson Hyman, writes on the Jewish Women’s Archive blog that her “gift for making an everyday meal extraordinary was so subtle that I usually didn’t notice how incredible her efforts were.’’ Proceeds from book sales go to the Riverway Project, a Temple Israel initiative that connects adults in their 20s and 30s to each other, to Judaism, and to the temple.
