Jan Gardner looks at two upcoming lectures at Harvard Museum of Natural History: a Nov. 30 talk by Harvard zoologist Piotr Naskrecki about his book “Relics: Travels in Nature’s Time Machine’’ and a Dec. 13 lecture by Carl Zimmer, author of “Science Ink: Tattoos of the Science Obsessed.’’ Gardner also notes the opening of two independent bookstores in mall spaces vacated by the bankrupt Borders chain: Book Shack in Kingston’s Independence Mall and Spirit of ’76 Squared in Swampscott Mall.
