It's the last book in the series of dark tales about children swept into traumatic adventures. The plot is terribly hush-hush, though it's rumored that two main characters die. The publisher is printing millions of copies. Bookstores plan midnight openings to meet the bracing demand.
But none of this involves Harry Potter. The rising frenzy here is for "The End," the last of the Lemony Snicket books by Daniel Handler, which hits the stores on Friday the 13th of October at 12:01 a.m. (Two cheers for marketing.)
We presume that Handler himself will sleep in that night, but he will be at Natick High School on Oct. 16 to discuss his work.
