A new book award

Posted by David Mehegan October 6, 2006 11:35 AM

PEN American Center, the national writers' group, this week announced a new book award, named for legendary Harvard economist and liberal icon John Kenneth Galbraith. The $10,000 PEN/John Kenneth Galbraith Award, to be given every other year, will recognize a nonfiction book "possessing notable literary merit and critical perspective" on an important contemporary issue.

One can't help but wonder if entries would need to have a liberal perspective. Not according to the rules as written. But it's hard to imagine a book by George F. Will, or Milton Friedman, winning the Galbraith award. Unless, of course, they have a conversion experience.
