Poetry Month: Boston events, poems emailed to you daily

Posted by guest April 9, 2009 07:56 AM

No, it's not too late to shop. We celebrate National Poetry Month for the entire month.
How to get involved? You could just tune in to WGBH either on the radio (89.7) or online about 8:55 each morning for Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac,'' a short wrap-up of this-day-in-literature and a recitation of a poem. If you miss it or can't remember, you can always hit the website and catch up.
Too big a commitment or just too Lake Woebegon for you? Head to the Academy of American Poets website and sign up to have them email you a poem every day for the month. (The Academy started the celebration in '96)
If you're definitely the aural type, but you want it local, Gordon College in Wenham is offering up free daily podcasts of poems on its iTunes site. The school is also planning a series of readings on campus. For more info, call 978-867-4752.
And tonight Lexington Community Education is sponsoring a session with poet Robert Bly at 7, and has couple other events with the likes of X.J. Kennedy slated for later this month.
Know of any other events? Please share.
