It was near the end of World War II. There were 24 members of the US military aboard a plane on a sightseeing excursion when it crashed into the New Guinea jungle in an area inhabited by cannabalistic tribes. Only three survived: a severely injured sergeant, a beautiful WAC, a lieutenant who lost his twin in the accident. Mitchell Zuckoff’s "Lost in Shangri-La'' chronicles the trio's battle for survival and the military operation to rescue them. Zuckoff will discuss his book Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rockport Public Library and Thursday at 7 p.m. at Newtonville Books.
