John Updike, one of Americas foremost literary figures, died Jan. 27, 2009.
The two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction was a master of many authorial trades, and one of a few American writers of serious literary fiction to make a living purely from his writing.
Updike is seen here at his home in Beverly on April 9, 1991.
