Updike's collection of novels about Harry Rabbit Angstrom, a former high school basketball star, are some of the author's most monumental products. The works include Rabbit, Run, Rabbit Redux (1971), Rabbit Is Rich (1981), and Rabbit at Rest. He also inspired the 2001 novella Rabbit Remembered.
Rabbit Is Rich won a rare literary trifecta, the Pulitzer, the American Book Award, and National Book Critics Circle Award. Rabbit at Rest won the Pulitzer and critics circle award.
Updike is seen here inscribing a copy of "Rabbit is Rich" on April 12, 1982 — the day the work won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
