Hell has apparently frozen over because Vogue revealed their April 2014 cover to feature Kim Kardashian — oh, and Kanye West. The engaged pair were photographed by Annie Leibovitz for the magazine’s “Shape Issue” (come on, guys) with the pretty hilarious hashtag: #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.
If our memory serves us correct, rumors of Kardashian’s cover shoot surfaced in February when Jezebel reported an unnamed but “well-placed” source claimed Vogue was “in LA shooting her RIGHT NOW.” West has allegedly been working hard to persuade Anna Wintour to put his fiance on the cover of the publication for months — with PowerPoint and everything! — but the Conde Nast artistic director has historically expressed disinterest with the Kardashian clan.
“There’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday,” West said in an October interview with “Keeping up with the Kardashians” producer/direct recipient of financial profits earned by said Kardashians, Ryan Seacrest. “And collectively, we’re the most influential with clothing. No one is looking at what [President Barack Obama] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.”
That picture, of course, was this one.
To be fair, the cover is incredibly tasteful — and yes, even beautiful — and the accompanying video from the shoot is a rare look at the couple with baby North West. From a news perspective, it does make sense to peg the shoot toward the pair’s upcoming nuptials, which adds a certain amount of depth to their story. And yes, we have no doubt that this issue will sell.
While the rest of the fashion industry picks their jaws up from the carpet and backs away slowly shaking their head in shame, we can still sleep at night knowing that at least one person is happy:
