Jose Carreras cancels Singapore concert

SINGAPORE -- Jose Carreras canceled a Singapore concert, citing "unforeseen circumstances and difficulties," promoters said.

Carreras had been scheduled to perform Thursday. It would have been the last stop on a seven-city Asian tour. The 56-year-old tenor was in Australia when the decision to cancel was made on Monday, the Straits Times daily reported.

"We regret to announce the Jose Carreras concert... is canceled and will not take place due to unforeseen circumstances and difficulties experienced by us," Singapore concert promoter M2 said in a statement posted on its Web site.

M2 officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.

M2 director Adrian Hobbs told the Straits Times he was unable to explain the reason for the cancellation because of a confidentiality agreement with Carreras.
