With this round of filming winding up, ''The Departed" star Leonardo DiCaprio spent yesterday afternoon at the New England Aquarium. DiCaprio, who had a bodyguard near his party, eschewed the star treatment and took in the aquarium like the rest of us -- walking around to see the penguins, the sharks in the big tank, and the sea lions out back. . . . ''The Departed" crews finished packing up at Fort Port Channel after Martin Sheen's stunt double spent a full day jumping or being thrown off of a building. No actual Sheens were hurt in the filming, we're told, although the unnamed stuntman was thrown around a bit.
Rock-solid pitching
Bronson Arroyo's show at Avalon was unquestionably a hit with his fans, but how did his manager, Terry Francona, feel about the pitcher playing a gig the night before a big game? Arroyo told WFAN in New York that Matt Clement would have pitched last night's series opener versus the Yanks had he not played in the All-Star Game. ''So now it's my call and they've known about the concert for a long time, so we'll just have to get 'er done," Arroyo told 'FAN jocks Joe Benigno and Sid Rosenberg.A banner event
Governor Mitt Romney's appearance at a fund-raiser in Norwood this week was not without a bit of drama. Romney delayed his speech to well-heeled supporters assembled inside auto guy Ernie Boch Jr.'s jet hangar because the giant American flag used as a backdrop for the event was hung incorrectly. (The union, or blue field, should be on the observer's left when facing the flag.) An apparent fanatic about flag etiquette, Romney requested that the Stars and Stripes be flipped, but organizers had already put their ladders away. Given the choice of walking out of the $500-per-person reception or standing in front of the faulty flag, the governor concluded the show should go on.The ol' college try
Harvard president Larry Summers, who'll throw out the first pitch at Fenway tonight, is leaving nothing to chance. Not wanting to embarrass himself in front of 34,000 screaming Sox fans, we're told, Summers threw a side session this week with a Harvard baseball coach. And word is ''Fever Pitch" filmmakers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, and perhaps even costars Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon, will be at the ballpark this weekend. (Not coincidentally, ''Fever Pitch" is about to be released on DVD.) . . . Others expected to make the scene during the dramatic Sox-Yanks series include Dale Earnhardt Jr., who races Sunday at the New Hampshire International Speedway, and rock chicks Juliana Hatfield and Kay Hanley, who have been invited to sing the national anthem before Saturday's game.Good sports
