Reality check

A day after local ''Brat Camp" participant Jada Chabot slammed a speedboat into a family on Wrentham Pond, the teenager's mother said she's sorry her daughter took part in the ABC reality show. Karyn Chabot of Newport, R.I., said she was always skeptical of signing Jada up for the ABC show, which tracks nine troubled teens at an Oregon wilderness camp. Now, she's frustrated that her 16-year-old daughter -- who faces four charges from the Massachusetts Environmental Police -- is being treated as a public figure.''If she's going to do a personal transformation, it's got to be in private," Karyn Chabot said yesterday.

Oh, goody

You can bet people will be trying to get near Mark Wahlberg tomorrow night at the special screening of director John Singleton's ''Four Brothers" that will benefit Wahlberg's youth foundation. But the goody bag will also be in demand. Among the items the invite-only guests will tote home are: the latest styles from London clothier Ted Baker, a few polo shirts from Izod, and sport accessories from Everlast and Brine Sporting Goods. Also in the package is a free workout at Sports Club/LA.

BU Beantown boys busy out west

One thing is sure: You can't doubt BU alums David Comtois and David Carr's commitment to Boston. As the multi-hyphenate owners of the LaLa-Land-based Beantown Productions, they are the folks responsible for many of the daily teases for ''The Insider" and syndicated TV shows like ''Seinfeld." Not only is the company physically moving (from Sunset Boulevard to a Boston-theme office building across the street from Paramount Studios), but the principals are on the move. Comtois and Carr and their other producing partners recently returned from Europe, where they were filming for their documentary ''Decoding Da Vinci," which will be released next year (with the feature film based on New Hamphire guy Dan Brown's runaway bestseller). And there's another Boston connection in the company: Comtois and Carr's New York City-based vice president, Ken Warun, also went to BU, although not at the same as with the company's founders. They all shared a professor at BU, Kevin Burns, who just happens to be a Hollywood producer now.

Reading for kicks

New England Revolution star Taylor Twellman read ''The Hero Book: Learning Lessons from the People You Admire" to 30 children at the Jordan Boys & Girls Club of Chelsea the other day, part of the ''Start U. Reading" program. . . . It's a good thing they settled that National Hockey League thing, because we were missing our Bruins. So we're glad to report Hal Gill lunched yesterday at the Boston Harbor Hotel.

And that was Senator Ted Kennedy taking in Tom Stoppard's ''On the Razzle" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Werner, Warner make a deal

Red Sox honcho Tom Werner's professional life is back in the news again. According to yesterday's Hollywood Reporter, Werner ''officially has embarked on the post-Carsey-Werner Co. era of his career by forming a TV production venture." During the past 20 years, Werner and producing partner Marcy Carsey had one of the most enviable track records in TV from Bill Cosby's return to network fare in ''The Cosby Show" to ''Roseanne" to ''That '70s Show." Werner's new venture has inked a two-year development and production deal with the TV division of Warner Bros.

Black flag

If you need another Pixies fix, the gang will come fresh off their performance at the Newport Folk Festival this weekend to perform in Boston one more time. Details are expected to be released tonight on radio concerning where and how to get tickets for a special Monday night performance by Frank Black and his Pixies bandmates. The gig, part of the Club Date Series released on DVD by Eagle Rock Entertainment, will be at the Paradise Rock Club at 8 p.m., we're told.
