Infinity suspends Stern

Howard Stern got a one-day suspension yesterday after heavily promoting his move to Sirius Satellite Radio. Karen Mateo, a spokeswoman for Infinity Broadcasting, wouldn't call Stern's absence a suspension, but Stern's spokesman, Matt Traub, did call it a paid suspension. ''This is an act of desperation by men who are losing their once-in-a-lifetime franchise," Traub said. Stern announced his departure last year to Sirius, where he received a $500 million contract to begin in January 2006. His last live radio show for Infinity is scheduled for Dec. 16.

Led Zeppelin, conductor share prize

Led Zeppelin and Russian conductor Valery Gergiev won the 2006 Polar Music Prize, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. The winners will each receive $123,180, the academy announced yesterday. The prize is typically split between pop artists and classical musicians. Past winners include Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen. John Bonham, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant formed Led Zeppelin in 1968. The group disbanded after Bonham died. Gergiev will be principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra starting in January 2007.

Hudson disputes eating disorder claim

Actress Kate Hudson instructed lawyers to begin action yesterday against several publications for printing pictures that she said falsely implied she had an eating disorder. Hudson, daughter of actress Goldie Hawn, claims the pictures ''suggested that she had an eating disorder that was so grave and serious that she was wasting away, to the extreme concern of her mother and family," her lawyers said.

Shaq's wife expecting

Shaquille O'Neal is preparing to become a father for the sixth time. Shaunie O'Neal, the wife of the Miami Heat center, told Miami television station WFOR that she is three months pregnant. The couple, who married in 2002, are raising three sons and two daughters. They have had three children together, and two are from his previous relationships.

Turn it on again

'We're all still good friends. Just because we don't play in the same band anymore doesn't mean we don't see each other and enjoy each other's company.' Former Genesis singer and drummer Phil Collins, who says the band's original lineup, including Peter Gabriel, may reunite.
