New projects for Oscar winner Morris

If Errol Morris could give this year's crop of Oscar nominees one bit of advice, it'd be this: Win! A year after his film ''The Fog of War" won the Academy Award for best documentary, Morris is very much in demand. ''It certainly didn't hurt," admits the Cambridge-based filmmaker. No kidding. In addition to a new documentary that he can't talk about, Morris is set to start shooting two other movies. One, a studio project called ''Nub City," is a horror flick based on the bizarre true story of several Floridians who turned up missing arms and legs after taking out insurance policies on themselves. ''I'm not a big blood-and-guts guy, but this story's been on my mind for close to 30 years," said Morris. ''I actually like horror films. . . . Hitchcock's 'Psycho' is a very important movie to me, and I love those Polanski pictures." The director's other film, also in pre-production, is a fictional account of the popular Michael Paterniti book, ''Driving Mr. Albert : A Trip Across America With Einstein's Brain." Says Morris: ''Following the Oscars, I just decided this'd be a good time to expand my repertoire."

Wright returns for ‘Love’

Comedian Steven Wright is not a complicated guy, as his website makes clear: ''I was born. When I was 23, I started telling jokes. Then I started going on television and doing films. That's still what I am doing. The end." But don't let the slacker affect fool you, there's more to the Burlington native than that. For 27 years, Wright's been one of the hardest-working humorists in showbiz, crisscrossing the country being his droll, deadpan self. Tomorrow, he'll be at Avalon taking part in ''A Funny Kind of Love," a benefit for Autism Speaks and the National Alliance for Autism Research. ''It's a great cause, and Lenny [Clarke] and Tony V are gonna be there," said Wright, whose appearance on ''The Tonight Show" way back when was a big break for Boston comics. Because he's on the road so much, Wright doesn't get a chance to catch a lot of comedians. ''I'll go see Kevin Meaney, and I'll see Robert Schimmel," he said. ''But I'm not out all the time like I used to be."

Sorensen pans the president

Ted Sorensen, the 78-year-old former special counsel to President John Kennedy, stuck it to the Bush administration during a talk at the Fletcher School at Tufts. Struggling at one point to pour himself a glass of water, Sorensen quipped, ''Don't you worry about my eyesight. I have more vision than the President of the United States." And when a Fletcher student asked if the domestic spying case rises to the level of ''high crimes and misdemeanors," Sorensen replied, ''It's whole lot more serious than fooling around with the intern."

Joe Perry's guitar is really F.I.N.E.

If you watched last week's Grammy Awards, you may have wondered about that beauteous blond painted on Joe Perry's guitar. It's his wife, Billie. The provocative portrait was done by Houston artist John Douglas, whose other rocker clients include ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Kid Rock, and Eddie Van Halen. Billie's airbrushed on the back of Perry's ax as well, looking very come hither in a low-cut red evening dress. . . . Turns out Kanye West's Grammy shout-out to ''Ike Williams" was not intended for John Taylor ''Ike" Williams, the hotshot lawyer and literary agent with Boston-based Fish & Richardson. ''Oddly enough, I've had 10 to 15 calls" about that, said Williams, whose specialty is intellectual property and First Amendment cases. ''We'd love to be suing or representing Kanye West, but no, he's not one of our clients."

Doctor will be in

Severe weather forced Dr. John to postpone his shows at the Regent Theatre in Arlington last night, but we're told the good doctor will take the stage tonight at 7 and 9:30. All tickets will be honored. . . . Alecia Moore, a.k.a. Pink, stopped in at Ciao Bella over the weekend, and the newlywed singer managed to eat three appetizers and drain a glass of chardonnay in just 45 minutes.

Swinging Brady

Although rumored to be single again, Pats QB Tom Brady didn't appear to be Livin' la Vida Lonely as he played golf with his dad, Tom Sr., at this weekend's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tourney.
