Garner tears up on 'Good Morning'

Jimmy Kimmel could barely stay on his side of the ''Good Morning America" set yesterday when Jennifer Garner showed up to chat with the show's smitten cohost, Charlie Gibson. Ben Affleck's better half was there to talk about motherhood, movie stardom, and, of course, baseball. ''You have to root for the Red Sox now, don't you?" grilled Gibson good-naturedly. Displaying those adorable dimples, Garner said she is a Sox fan, but admitted ''it took awhile." Back east while her hubby directs ''Gone, Baby, Gone," the ''Alias" star said she's sad the show is over. ''I could have tears right now if I'm not careful," she said. And soon enough, she did. Recalling a phone conversation with Affleck, the actress got emotional. ''[Ben] said, 'You shot hundreds of thousands of shots on this show, and now you're down to your final two.' And I just went -- it hit me again right now," said Garner, choking back tears. Asked if she's a mom or a movie star, Garner replied, ''I think that it is the primary problem of women of our age: What are we and how can we be everything and do it all well?"

Hollywood is in Ocean State of mind

CBS is expected today to announce its fall lineup, which includes ''Waterfront." Joe Pantoliano plays a ''wildly charismatic and ethically challenged mayor of Providence, R.I." Sound familiar, Buddy Cianci? The drama also stars Billy Baldwin, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Larenz Tate. In addition, two indie films are set to start shooting in the Ocean State: Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst's ''The Education of Charlie Banks," and ''Normal Adolescent Behavior" with Amber Tamblyn. ''Brotherhood," the Showtime series about two Bulger-like brothers on opposite sides of the law, has its red carpet party at Providence's Avon Cinema June 26.

‘Gone’ gets local talent

Brian Scannell, who plays a mobster in ''Brotherhood," has his next gig lined up. The West Roxbury native takes the role of Lenny in ''Gone, Baby, Gone," which starts shooting next week. Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, and Ed Harris, the movie is based on Dennis Lehane's book of the same name. Casting director Carolyn Pickman said Ben Affleck, making his directorial debut with the Dorchester-based detective flick, has been quite involved in casting. ''He's been enormously active in the way this movie will look," said Pickman. ''He's picking people from pictures we're showing him and saying, 'I like him for this or that scene.'"

DiLorenzo loses out on ‘Survivor’

Disappointed would accurately describe Danielle DiLorenzo, the Lynnfield native who lost out on $1 million during Sunday's ''Survivor" finale. (Yoga instructor Aras Baskauskas did win.) A marketing major at Northeastern, DiLorenzo, 24, works in sales and lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. But she's angling to parlay her higher profile into an acting gig -- or something. ''Maybe sideline reporter," she said.

Film fest honors
Director Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, who penned ''Sideways," will be honored at the Nantucket Film Festival next month, and several members of the cast, including Paul Giamatti, Virginia Madsen, and Thomas Haden Church, will be there. Meanwhile, at the Provincetown International Film Festival, ''Mysterious Skin" director Gregg Araki will receive the Filmmaker on the Edge award, and Lili Taylor the Excellence in Acting honors. Both festivals run from June 14-18.

MFA anniversary
Museum of Fine Arts director Malcolm Rogers marked the 50th anniversary of the MFA Associates this week by playing ''Happy Birthday" on the piano at a party. And the associates in turn announced they've created an endowment to fund the museum's film and video program.

Soap star Victoria Rowell is in town for an event at Wheelock College featuring artwork by youngsters in foster and adoptive care. Rowell is also promoting a fall fund-raiser for Parents for Residential Reform, where she'll be honored along with mouthpiece George Regan and auto magnate Ernie Boch Jr.
