Daniel Baldwin could face reckless-driving charges

Charges pending in Baldwin crash
Daniel Baldwin could face reckless - driving charges in Los Angeles after he drove a rented Ford Thunderbird at speeds of more than 80 mph through traffic and crashed into two parked cars, police said. Baldwin was detained for questioning and examined at a hospital after complaining of back and neck pain, Officer Martha Garcia said yesterday. ``He was not arrested," she said. ``He was detained for questioning, then afterward they determined they were going to file charges." An after-hours message left for Baldwin's attorney was not immediately returned. Shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, police officers said they observed Baldwin's car traveling at more than 80 mph. The car wove in and out of traffic and ran a red light before striking the two parked cars, including a Hummer that was pushed about 20 feet by the impact, authorities said. Baldwin, who was driving with a suspended license, refused to cooperate with a police officer, who drew his gun to get the actor to comply. Baldwin, 45, is the brother of Alec, Stephen , and William, and has appeared in films such as ``Car 54, Where Are You?" and ``Attack of the 50-Foot Woman." In April, prosecutors declined to file felony charges against Baldwin after his arrest in a cocaine possession case.

Tabloid to apologize for Hudson slight
Kate Hudson (above) has accepted libel damages from a supermarket tabloid that claimed she was dangerously thin. The British edition of the National Enquirer has agreed to pay undisclosed damages and print an apology for an October 2005 article that claimed Hudson was ``way too thin" and looked ``like skin and bones," Simon Smith, a lawyer for the 27-year-old actress, said yesterday. American Media Inc., the magazine's US-based publisher, apologized for ``the deep distress and acute embarrassment" caused by the allegations, which it acknowledged were false. The article -- accompanied by a photo of a gaunt-looking Hudson -- claimed her mother, Goldie Hawn, planned to confront her about her weight. Both Hudson and Hawn denied the claim.

Seriously, he was the policeman?
Victor Willis, the original policeman in '70s disco band The Village People, has pleaded no contest to drug possession charges. Willis, 54, was arrested in March in South San Francisco after police stopped his car and said they found cocaine and drug paraphernalia. At the time, he faced a bench warrant for failing to appear at his October sentencing hearing in San Mateo County Superior Court on another drug charge. A judge will decide Sept. 1 whether Willis should be sentenced to a residential drug treatment program or prison. He has been in custody since his arrest. Willis, who co-wrote hits such as ``Macho Man," ``YMCA , " and ``In the Navy," left The Village People in 1980.
