Wedding dress not on Holmes's list

Katie Holmes did a lot of shopping on her recent trip to Paris, but she didn't buy a wedding dress. Why? ``I already have my dress," Holmes, who's engaged to Tom Cruise, told People. The actress and her friend Victoria Beckham hit three fashion shows during their City of Light stay. ``They have beautiful things for babies here," the new mom said. Holmes picked up pink finery at Baby Tuileries, and eight pairs of Roger Vivier shoes for herself, which start at $650. Paris is where Cruise popped the question, atop the Eiffel Tower in June 2005. Saturday, Holmes headed to Lake Como, Italy, perhaps to scout wedding destinations.

All's apparently not well on the set of the hit show ``Grey's Anatomy." An on-set argument between costars Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington became physical, say published reports. Dempsey, 40, and Washington, 43, didn't need medical aid, but the actors, who both play doctors, did nearly come to blows during a spat over production issues. ``We were like two baseball players . . . nose-to-nose," Washington told People. ``We had a difference of opinions . . . but we've resolved it." At issue, says Washington, was ``time and [keeping] the production going. The communication was lost in translation." No punches were thrown. ``Our faces are too beautiful for that!," says Washington, who plays Dr. Preston Burke. Dempsey plays heartthrob Dr. Derek Shepherd, also known as ``Dr. McDreamy." ``In close families, arguments happen," Dempsey's rep told People.

Chinese officials have denied Jay-Z permission to perform in Shanghai because the rapper's music contains too many profane references. Concert promoter Sun Yun told China's state-run Shanghai Daily that ministry of culture officials pulled the plug on the show because of Jay-Z's ``vulgar language." The Oct. 23 event would have been the rapper's debut concert in China. At a concert in Shanghai in April, the Rolling Stones were asked not to play songs with certain suggestive lyrics. In the case of Jay-Z, Chinese authorities may not like his repeated references to drug dealers, pimps, violence, and guns.

Actress Ellen Barkin's jewelry -- more than 100 pieces, including her wedding ring from her failed marriage to Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman -- fetched a whopping $20.3 million at auction in New York. The ring, a wide band set with four rows of bell-cut diamonds topped in 18-carat gold, sold for $130,000, surpassing a presale estimate of $50,000. (The auction house didn't disclose the name of the buyer.) The highest price was paid for a 22.76-carat diamond ring created by American designer JAR, which fetched $1.8 million. The auction house Christie's said the film star, who's filming ``Ocean's Thirteen" with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, was ``thrilled" with the outcome of the sale.

Howard K. Stern is listed as the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby on the girl's Bahamian birth certificate, according to People. On the certificate, issued by the Registrar General's office in Nassau , the child is identified as Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, born on Sept. 7 in the Doctors Hospital in Nassau on the island of New Providence. Stern is Smith's longtime attorney and confidante.
