Moynahan talks baby, not Brady

March 23, 2007

Bridget Moynahan talked about her pregnancy publicly for the first time yesterday, and managed to do so without mentioning the baby's father, Pats quarterback Tom Brady. Appearing on "Live With Regis and Kelly," the actress, who's nearly five months along, looked as lovely as ever and said she's feeling fine, too. Wearing a black dress that didn't hide her bump, Moynahan, 36, said she didn't feel much different until "it started jumping around a bit." (The actress also taped an interview with Martha Stewart, which will air Monday.) Bridget and Brady, who dated for three years before breaking up in December, have both been mum since the pregnancy was revealed last month. No. 12 has since taken up with Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who this week felt compelled to deny reports that she also is carrying a Brady baby. Asked yesterday how her bigger belly was handled on her ABC series "Six Degrees," Moynahan said she had to carry a handbag on one episode to conceal her condition. (Card that she is, Kelly Ripa responded that Bridget will need a duffel bag before long.) Moynahan, who grew up in Longmeadow, gave no indication if she knows the baby's gender, but Kelly and her temporary cohost Neil Patrick Harris agreed that, he or she, the kid's a shoo-in to win the show's "beautiful baby contest." Stewart, meanwhile, asked the actress if she's "excited" about being a mom. "I am," replied Moynahan. "I'm a little nervous because I haven't done it before, but, you know, I have little nephews, and it's always nice to spend time with them, especially around the holidays."

Is a Mae wedding in the works?

Hazel Mae's getting married? So says Metro News Canada columnist Marty York, who writes that the NESN anchor is engaged to ballplayer Kevin Barker. A 31-year-old Virginia native, Barker played last year for the Toronto Blue Jays and is back with the club this spring. (He took Josh Beckett deep last season, but then who didn't?) Mae, who's been among Boston's most eligible bachelorettes since arriving at NESN in '04, caused a minor stir a while back when she told an interviewer: "NESN has never put rules down to me about dating players, colleagues , or anyone else. . . . If they did, I wouldn't work there." Mae's bosses declined to comment yesterday, and the "Sports Desk" siren didn't call us back.

Former Miss Mass. is styling

Miss Massachusetts 2004 , Maria Lekkakos , is making a return trip to the Miss USA pageant. The onetime contestant tells us she's the official hair-and-makeup handler at tonight's competition in LaLa Land. While she won't be strutting her stuff on the runway, her handiwork -- the hairstyles and makeup -- will be looked at closely by the celebrity judges. Lekkakos, owner of Alexander's Spa and Salon in Wenham, has been working with colorist Heather Murray on Lynn lovely Despina Delios, the Bay State's entry in the spectacle. Lekkakos left for the Left Coast early to take a meeting with Mark Wahlberg about one of his upcoming projects.

Gates, worth an estimated $56 billion, has donated millions to Harvard to create a computer-science building.

Adam Schlesinger, Chris Collingwood, and the rest of the Fountains of Wayne fellows performed a private, 30-minute acoustic show yesterday at First Act Guitar Studio on Boylston Street in the Back Bay. . . . Kevin Federline, who was a no-show at Gypsy Bar last month, is once more promising to grace us with his presence. The father of four children -- two with Shar Jackson and two with Britney Spears -- swears he'll be at Gypsy Bar April 13. . . . Pats tight end Benjamin Watson was among several NFL players taking part in a USO tour of Iraq. As part of the trip to the Persian Gulf, the players signed autographs for the troops. . . . LA Police Chief Bill Bratton, who was formerly the top cop in Boston and New York, dined with his wife, Rikki Klieman, at Prezza in the North End the other night.
