Tests show Michael used drugs

George Michael, who has pleaded guilty to driving while unfit, had several drugs in his system when he was arrested, a court heard yesterday. Tests showed the 43-year-old singer had taken a therapeutic quantity of an antidepressant as well as gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, prosecutor Andrew Torrington told Brent Magistrates' Court in London. GHB is often called the "date-rape drug" because it leaves people groggy and powerless. Michael, who wasn't in court yesterday, has said his condition was caused by "tiredness and prescribed drugs." The singer was arrested in the early hours of Oct. 2 after police responded to complaints that a car was blocking an intersection in North London. Police said Michael was found slumped over the wheel of the car. (AP)

Lohan inquiry expands
Authorities conducting undercover operations at trendy celebrity watering holes in recent weeks want to know whether an underage Lindsay Lohan was served alcohol before her car crash. California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control investigators also want to know whether Lohan or others were served after hours, agency spokesman John Carr said. Videos show Lohan leaving Hollywood's Les Deux club at 3:30 a.m. Alcohol cannot be served in California after 2 a.m. Les Deux spokeswoman Marissa Knies said Lohan had dinner and wasn't drinking. "Because of the enormous paparazzi presence outside of Les Deux that night, we allowed her to stay late and wait for her friends," said a statement released by Knies. Lohan, who'll turn 21 on July 2, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz that was damaged when it crashed into a curb on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills early Saturday. Lohan was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence. Her publicist announced the actress entered a rehabilitation facility on Monday. (AP)

Abdul found happiness on 'Idol'
Paula Abdul says she didn't figure out her purpose in life until she became a judge on "American Idol." "I knew since I was a little girl that I had this profound way of touching people. My purpose is bringing out everybody's best and being that cheerleader to other people's success," the 44-year-old singer-dancer tells OK! magazine. Abdul -- who says she was hit by a drunk driver in 1987 and injured in an emergency plane landing in the early '90s -- has been diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy, a chronic neurological disorder that causes severe pain. "If I appear exhausted on television, it's because I am!" she says. (AP)
