William H. Macy got things rolling yesterday with the first day of filming on "The Lonely Maiden," a comedy that also stars Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, and Marcia Gay Harden. Macy filmed scenes in a building on Summer Street in South Boston. Directed by Peter Hewitt, the flick will be shooting in the area for a couple of months.
Brady's making his list
Tom Brady spent a portion of the bye week bonding with his little boy, John, whose mom is the quarterback's ex, actress Bridget Moynahan. Appearing on WEEI, No. 12 said he split his time between the East and West coasts, telling morning hosts John Dennis and Gerry Callahan that he changed a diaper or two during the break. Otherwise, Brady gave a shout-out to his offensive line, saying the burly blockers deserve a lot of credit for the Pats' success. He pledged to reward them over the holidays. "I know they look forward to the gift," said Brady. "I give the best gifts they probably get all Christmas season. I'm like Santa Claus now."Hasselbeck names baby
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, co-host of "The View," called into her daytime TV chat show yesterday morning to announce that the newest addition to the family has a name: Taylor Thomas Hasselbeck. The proud mom, who met her husband, Arizona Cardinals backup QB Tim Hasselbeck, when they were students at Boston College, has been out on maternity leave since the end of last month. The always upbeat Hasselbeck sounded a bit tired as she joked that her labor lasted "four or five thousand hours." . . . Speaking of "The View," former show moderator Rosie O'Donnell, whose liberal opinions sparked a few arguments with the conservative Hasselbeck, was at Symphony Hall on Sunday night to catch Annie Lennox's show. While we're sure it would get the rest of us tossed from the concert, Rosie was able to sneak in a video camera and posted two minutes of Annie's performance on her website, Rosie.com.US wins Nations Cup
Harvard student Hillary Dobbs and the rest of the US show jumping team - Brianne Goutal, Charlie Jayne, and Libby McKinney - won the Nations Cup in Buenos Aires over the weekend. Dobbs, 19, also placed third in the individual Grand Prix event. On hand to see her first international competition were the equestrian's parents, Debi and CNN commentator Lou Dobbs.Kerry's Vets Day treat
Kudos to John Kerry, who marked Veterans Day by taking hundreds of servicemen and servicewomen on a three-hour cruise of Boston Harbor. Among those joining the junior senator on board the Spirit of Boston was 19-year-old Vincent Mannion, who hadn't left the hospital since suffering a brain injury in Iraq. His buddies from the 82d Airborne came up from Fort Bragg to be with him, and the ship's flag was presented to Mannion at the end of the evening.Beehive draws Sting
Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, stopped by The Beehive in the South End for dinner the other night, where executive chef Rebecca Newell whipped them up some fried calamari, mussels, and a new menu item - the yummy grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. We're told that after finishing the mussels, Sting polished off the tomato-based broth.Down to earth
NASA astronaut and former Needham resident Sunita Williams always seems to show off her love of the Red Sox. After stopping by FM radio station Magic 106.7 to talk with Gay Vernon for the "Exceptional Women" show yesterday, Williams and her sister, Dina Pandya, were headed to a Sox event with baseball guru Peter Gammons.A new team
Chicago Cubs lefty Rich Hill was in town over the weekend to wed his high school sweetheart, Caitlin McClellan. The 6-foot-5 pitcher, the pride of Milton High School, married McClellan, a nurse, Sunday at St. Gregory's Church in Dorchester. Hill, 27, was 11-8 for the Cubbies last season. But more impressive than his record is his impersonation of Napolean Dynamite's annoying brother Kip. You can find it on YouTube.Names can be reached at names@globe.com or at 617-929-8253.![]()
