Family gathering
Quite a crowd gathered at the JFK Library last night to pay tribute to Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Not only were her brother Ted Kennedy and sister Jean Kennedy Smith there, but so were Eunice's five children: Robert, California first lady Maria, Timothy, Mark, and Anthony. Harvard Law prof Mary Ann Glendon moderated the family function.
A shopping trip where everyone benefits
As they do every year at this time, the pretty people went shopping at the "7th on Sale" sample sale in New York, a celeb-heavy event that benefits various AIDS charities. Cohasset's own Kate Bosworth made the scene as did Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, and supermodel Kate Moss, both of whom have fab new 'dos. Bosworth told USA Today she's a bargain hunter. "A little bit with clothes, but more so with furniture," she said. "That's become my obsession recently because I'm furnishing my house."
Invested in Ireland
Pats owners Bob and Myra Kraft caught up with Pittsburgh Steelers poobah Dan Rooney at this week's reception for the American Ireland Fund at the Marriott Hotel at Copley Place. The event, chaired by Kerry Healey's husband, Sean, raised more than $1 million for a school in Northern Ireland that educates Catholic and Protestant kids together. Michael Collins, Ireland's ambassador to the United States, was there, as were Liberty Mutual chairman Ted Kelly, developer John Drew, and Staples CFO John Mahoney.
A cut above
Cameron Diaz had her blond tresses meticulously tended to yesterday at the Jean-Pierre Hair Salon on Newbury Street. We're told that the actress, who starts shooting "The Box" in Boston today, spent close to three hours being primped by a stylist who'd flown in from LA. "She could not have been nicer," said an eyewitness. "She's so sweet and so welcoming." Directed by Richard Kelly of "Donnie Darko" fame, "The Box" is a psychological thriller that costars Frank Langella. . . . Meanwhile, in town to shoot "The Lonely Maiden," Christopher Walken was in the lobby of the Liberty Hotel yesterday wearing sweatpants.
Williams's local cure
Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was in Boston for the past 5 1/2 months? So says super agent Leigh Steinberg, who told reporters this week that his formerly cannabis-loving client cleaned up his act thanks to a Boston-based drug treatment center. Where, he wouldn't say, but could Yefim Shubentsov have been involved? The Brookline "doctor" has helped 134,000 people, including many celebrities, cure their cravings for everything from cigarettes to drugs to sex. (His famous patients have included Billy Joel, director Richard Donner, author Amy Tan, and actor David Arquette.) Williams was just reinstated after serving an 18-month suspension for repeated violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy. "I'm terribly sorry, but I cannot talk about my patients," says Shubentsov, whose talents have earned him the nickname "The Eraser." OK, but hypothetically, could he cure what was ailing Williams? "Of course," he said. "In one session."
Thurman's local 'fan'
A man with ties to Massachusetts pleaded not guilty yesterday to stalking "Kill Bill" actress Uma Thurman for nearly two years. Jack Jordan, who has family and a home in Massachusetts, according to his lawyer, has been held on $10,000 bail since his arrest in October. Authorities say he tried unsuccessfully to get into Thurman's trailer on a movie set in Manhattan, and also sent her threatening e-mails and letters. Last August, according to court documents, Jordan, 35, appeared three or four times a week at Thurman's home, asking to see her and being told to leave. "If the complainant weren't Ms. Thurman," defense lawyer George Vomvolakis told the AP, "this would have been a misdemeanor stalking case."
Francona's on call
Isn't Terry Francona the guy who scolds members of the media if their cellphones ring while he's trying to talk? Well, yesterday, it was the Sox skipper who was the nuisance. We're told everyone at OCB Boston, an ophthalmology office on Staniford Street, had to listen while Francona finished up a lengthy and loud conversation on his cell. Seems Tito's having a procedure this offseason.
Rating a picture book
Photographer Michael Grecco says he got the idea for his latest book after attending the Adult Video Awards. "I went as a spectator because my wife's in the TV industry," explains Grecco, a BU grad who shoots celebrity portraits for everyone from Entertainment Weekly to Time. "It was so over-the-top, I thought I was in a Fellini movie. . . . I just wanted to put these people in a book." The result is "Naked Ambition: An R-Rated Look at an X-Rated Industry," a picture book that peeks under the silken sheets of the porn industry. With one exception, Grecco got to photograph everyone he approached, including Jenna Jameson, spike-haired former minister Halcyon, and the 6-foot-4 Alexis Skye. The only one who wouldn't pose? Male film star Evan Stone. "He said he doesn't do still work," Grecco told us. For obvious reasons, we can't publish the photos, but Grecco will give a talk at BU's Photographic Resource Center on Nov. 26. Asked if his pre-teen kids have seen the book, Grecco said not yet. "It's almost PG, but not quite."
Here was the bride
Julianna Margulies managed to keep her wedding under wraps until yesterday, when her peeps released a pic of the actress and her husband, Keith Lieberthal. Turns out Margulies, who's expecting the couple's first child in January, was married last weekend in Lenox.
