Authorities investigating allegations that Miss Puerto Rico Universe Ingrid Marie Rivera's dress and makeup were sabotaged with pepper spray during a Nov. 24 pageant in San Juan found no traces of the substance in her belongings, Reuters reports. Investigations by Puerto Rico's Forensic Sciences Institute turned up no capsicum, the prime ingredient in pepper spray. In light of the findings, police superintendent Pedro Toledo said the investigation will now focus on whether anybody provided false statements to police officers - a felony. Rivera (inset) herself has not provided any statements or information to the police; the initial police complaint was filed by the pageant's security director, Reuters reports. (PEOPLE.COM)
White House honors entertainers
From "Good Vibrations" to "GoodFellas," Brian Wilson and Martin Scorsese scored. Steve Martin strutted as one of the "wild and crazy guys." Diana Ross sang to Motown stardom. Pianist Leon Fleisher surmounted a debilitating injury. Their contributions to American culture won them a visit yesterday to the White House and recognition by President Bush, followed by an evening of celebration at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The two-hour event will air Dec. 26 on CBS. (AP)Taylor's show goes on
Elizabeth Taylor returned to the stage Saturday night, after persuading striking TV and film writers to briefly put down their picket signs. The Writers Guild of America agreed not to picket the Paramount Pictures lot when actress and AIDS activist Taylor gave a benefit performance of A.R. Gurney's play "Love Letters" with James Earl Jones. Taylor, 75, said she would not cross picket lines Dec. 1, which was World AIDS Day. (AP)'Enchanted' wins
"Enchanted" enjoyed another fairy-tale weekend at the North American box office yesterday, but overall sales succumbed to the traditional post-Thanksgiving blues. "Enchanted," starring Amy Adams as a cartoon princess who comes to life on the mean streets of Manhattan, sold about $17 million in tickets during the three-day period beginning Friday, leading the field for a second weekend. Only one film opened in the top 10. "Awake," a romantic thriller starring Hayden Christensen as a Wall Street banker who is conscious during heart surgery, flatlined at No. 4 with $6 million. The comedy "This Christmas," about a family's first holiday reunion in four years, held steady at No. 2 with $8.4 million in its second weekend. Former champion "Beowulf" was unchanged at No. 3 with $7.9 million. (REUTERS)Ozzy sale nets $800k
Heavy metal fans turned out in numbers Friday and Saturday to snatch up a coat with embroidered bats, sneakers with skulls on them, and other items put up for sale by Ozzy Osbourne. The auction brought in $800,000. All proceeds from the sale go to the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. "We had Ozzy fans bidding against these sophisticated fine art buyers, which you don't see every day," said Darren Julien, whose company ran the charity sale.
