PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. - With as much time and money as they have, you'd think celebrities could golf a little bit. But actors Jerry O'Connell, Gabrielle Union, Adrian Grenier, and Kevin Sorbo all displayed an appalling lack of skill at Audi's celeb-heavy hole-in-one contest here yesterday.
Also taking fearsome whacks for a chance to win a $120,000 Audi R8 - it's what Tom Brady drives, by the way - were celebs Jason Biggs, Molly Simms, Maria Menounos, NFL Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Ronnie Lott, current players Donovan McNabb, Marcellus Wiley, Tommie Harris, Tigers' pitcher Dontrelle Willis, and former NBA star Reggie Miller, to name just a few.
We congratulated Biggs on his just-announced engagement to Jenny Mollen, with whom he filmed "My Best Friend's Girl" in Boston. "I got into the Sox last summer, but I'm rooting for the Giants on Sunday," the "American Pie" star told us. "I don't know if Tom Brady's got more talent or looks, but I hate him for both."
Likewise, O'Connell, a San Diego Chargers season ticket holder, said he wouldn't mind seeing Big Blue beat down the Pats. "Either you love the Patriots and have them tattooed on the side of your head, or you despise them," said Rebecca Romijn's better half. "I'm somewhere in the middle."
Yesterday's event was a fund-raiser for All Stars Helping Kids, an organization that helps disadvantaged children, and the Donovan McNabb Foundation, which raises awareness about diabetes.
'Late Show' no-show
Despite
David Letterman's best efforts to entice her to appear on his show,
Gisele Bundchen is having none of it.
Tom Brady's supermodel girlfriend, who's winging her way back to the States after shooting a jewelry ad in Brazil this week, has declined Dave's offer to appear on "The Late Show" before the Super Bowl. But we're told that Gisele will be in attendance - and out of view - at Sunday's extravaganza at University of Phoenix Stadium.
The Pats' road warrior
For
Brad Darr, the New Orleans-based Patriots superfan, hosting a Super Bowl bash has become a regular event. When the Pats won their first Super Bowl in 2002, Darr set up a home away from home for New England fans in the New Orleans bar he then owned. Since then, each time the Pats have played in the big game, Darr has taken his roadshow to another locale, setting up shop in a local bar for a Saturday night pep-rally - complete with a voodoo ceremony - and a Sunday game-watching party. This time, he's joined with the New England Patriots Fan Club of Arizona to host the events at the Vine Tavern and Eatery in Phoenix. When he told club members he expected at least 1,000 fans, Darr says, they retrofitted the bar with a chain link fence, benches, heaters, and grills. Darr expects the extra space will come in handy. "People want to be part of history," he said.
Cheers to ticket winner
Turns out that not drinking at two Pats home games was a wise and lucrative decision for Framingham's
Christina Alavian. Alavian won two tickets to Sunday's big game, plus airfare and a hotel room because she signed up as a designated driver at the games. As for whether she'll imbibe once she's in Arizona, Alavian hedged her bets. "If I do," she said, "I won't drive afterward."
Their wish comes true
In other ticket news, the Make-A-Wish Foundation presented
Chris Koufos with Super Bowl tickets yesterday so that the 7-year-old and his family can watch his favorite team in Sunday's game. Thanks to an assist from Patriots owner
Robert Kraft, who donated tickets, the foundation didn't have to choose among local Pats fans who "wished" to go to the Super Bowl. Also heading to Arizona are 15-year-old
Alex Sequeria of Plymouth, who's taking his mom,
Virginia, and his uncle,
William Keyes Jr., and Cummaquid's
Rodger Long, 15, his mom,
Virginia Farnum, and family friend
Alan Junnila.
Gisele & Tom not 'Sexy'
Meanwhile, Gisele's former employer Victoria's Secret unveiled its latest "What is sexy?" list yesterday, and our boy Tom Brady is not the sexiest male athlete. Cowboys QB
Tony Romo is. Relations between Bundchen and Victoria's Secret have been frosty since she left the lingerie company, and we're sure this slight won't do anything to repair the relationship. By the way, who's the sexiest couple?
Fergie and
Josh Duhamel, not Brady and Bundchen. As for locals on the list: Cohasset's
Kate Bosworth (inset) gets "sexiest eyes," and Arlington's
Dane Cook is dubbed "sexiest funnyman."
Tressing for success
With New York Fashion Week just days away, many local stylemakers are gearing up to go see the big fall runway shows. Of course, a talented few will be taking part. We hear that Newbury Street's mane man
Serge Safar will be doing the hair for designer
Zac Posen's show at Bryant Park Feb. 7. Talk about a brush with greatness. . .
'Gates' to Boston
Artists
Christo and
Jeanne-Claude will be in Boston next week for a screening of the HBO documentary "The Gates," named for their 2005 public art project in New York's Central Park. Best known for their temporary, large-scale projects (such as wrapping Berlin's Reichstag in fabric back in 1995), the artists are the subject of the film, which will be shown at the MFA Feb. 8.
VIPosh
When
Victoria Beckham makes a personal appearance, people come running. Literally. Curiosity seekers, Spice Girls fans, corporate types in suits and ties - half of Back Bay, it seemed, streamed into Saks Fifth Avenue yesterday to see the diminutive diva, there to promote her dVb denim and sunglasses lines. Even upstairs, at a private event organized by a dVb denim-clad
Dana Gerson Unger,
the photos never stopped. Gerson Unger, a mainstay of the city's charitable scene, brought along several of her pals, including
Sinesia Karol,
Suzanne Bloomberg, and
Audra Lank. Also in tow? Her nearly 5-year-old daughter,
Grayce, who was quite the fashionista in skinny jeans and Uggs.
