Fiddy and Diddy on the same night in the same city? Oh, the embarrassment of riches that is Super Bowl XLII. While Diddy was hosting a block party at Axis/Radius Thursday, rapper 50 Cent and a slew of his celebrity friends were making some serious noise at the 944 Super Village in Scottsdale. Paris Hilton, who's pictured wearing only a pair of underwear on the cover of the new issue of 944 magazine, was fully clothed as she walked the red carpet and later made a brief appearance on stage. "Get off my cameras," Fiddy hollered at Hilton as she posed for fans and photographers. Getting their groove on in the audience were several NFL stars, as well as Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloe, actor Mekhi Phifer, former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy, and the pitiful Dennis Rodman, who looked to be out on his feet and needing assistance from two young women to climb the three steps to the VIP section. 50 Cent's set included such hits as "Candy Shop" and "Ayo Technology."
It's fashion first then football for Gisele
What's a supermodel to do when it's Fashion Week in New York and her quarterback boyfriend is playing in the Super Bowl in Arizona? Go to both.
Gisele Bundchen was in the front row yesterday at the Rag & Bone show at Cipriani, 42nd Street. No catwalking for her. We do know that the Brazilian beauty is soon to be traveling to Glendale in time to watch beau
Tom Brady in the biggest game of his career.
Stylist Swissa makes the cut with Brady
Don't be surprised if
Tom Brady's sporting a new 'do at the Super Bowl. No. 12's Newbury Street stylist
told the Globe that Brady's due for a haircut before the big game. "It's a surprise for everybody,"
Pini Swissa let it slip. "Saturday night, I'm gonna cut it off." Brady's not superstitious, he said, but since he had cuts before previous Super Bowls, the QB figured he'd get one again this time. Swissa, who's coiffed several members of the team, including Brady's backup
Matt Cassel and
Dan Koppen, has a Super Bowl ring, which he proudly displayed. "I'm hoping to get one more," he said. "If I get one more, I'll be happiest guy on earth." (In a 2006 interview, Brady confessed that Swissa's the only stylist who touches his hair.) "I am the good luck charm," said Swissa. "I hope the helmet's gonna fit after I cut his hair off." As it is every year, one of the most popular Super Bowl parties was EA Sports's annual video game event, where a posse of NFL stars played Madden NFL 08 against one another. Taking part - and taking it seriously - were Bengals receiver
Chad Johnson, Ravens running back
Willis McGahee, Cowboys tight end
Jason Witten, rookies
Patrick Ellis and
Marshawn Lynch, Chargers linebacker
Shawn Merriman, Browns tight end
Kellen Winslow, and Patriot
Laurence Maroney, who didn't win but looked good losing. (The stylish Maroney was wearing his signature Kool-Aid necklace and matching Kool-Aid cap.) McGahee walked away with the Madden Bowl trophy, but it was something Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson said that made the night memorable. The flamboyant receiver, whose days in Cinci may be numbered, said he's a huge Pats fan. "I love
[Bill] Belichick," he said, sounding like he'd like to suit up for the home team. "We hit it off since the first time we met." (Video of the exchange is posted on
Boston.com.)
It gets hot in the desert
The Patriots cheerleaders got down and dirty in the high desert yesterday, doing a sexy photo shoot exclusively for Maxim. We tagged along and watched
Quinn Kingston,
Lindsey Barrows, and
Alysha Castonguay strike their best Pats poses amid the Arizona cacti. (If you want to see the shots by Maxim photo editor
Kelly Stuart, they'll be posted online Monday morning.) "This whole season has been a blast, and now, to be at the Super Bowl, wow," said Kingston, a Manchester, N.H., native. All of the cheerleaders planned to attend last night's Maxim party, and Kingston, for one, was excited to eyeball, if not chat up, some A-list celebs. (Believe it or not, the Giants are one of a handful of NFL teams who don't have a team of cheerleaders.) Asked if she's wearing her uniform to the party, Kingston laughed. "No," she said. "We all went shopping and got nice outfits."
Hometown support
Singer
Bobby Brown (inset) showed his love for the Patriots yesterday on
Ellen DeGeneres's show. "Sure, I'm from Boston, Roxbury. Got to cheer for them," said Brown, wearing a No. 12 jersey. DeGeneres also picked Pats "super fan"
Louann Santos of Methuen to go to the Super Bowl. The catch? She has to go to all the events and share a room with Giants fan
Megan Sculley.
Old school ties in a knot
This Super Bowl must leave some Phillips Academy alums conflicted. The school has ties to both the Pats and the Giants, after all.
Bill Belichick graduated from the Andover prep school in 1971, as did Pats strategist
Ernie Adams. (The two played the offensive line together for Phillips.) Meanwhile, 2003 grad
Zak DeOssie (son of Pats and Giants player turned radio host
Steve DeOssie) is a rookie linebacker for the Giants. A former Phillips QB, Zak was once ballboy for another QB,
Tom Brady.
Fans in the off-season
Kevin Youkilis and
Clay Buchholz are headed to Arizona for the Super Bowl, but their Sox teammate, pitcher
Tim Wakefield, had other plans. Wakefield flew yesterday with the Navy's Blue Angels out in California. . . . Back here, Sox pitcher
Jonathan Papelbon and outfielder
Coco Crisp watched the Celtics beat the Mavericks Thursday night.
Signing bonus
Sadly, injured Pats player
Rosevelt Colvin (above, signing a poster for
Colleen Flanagan of Jamaica Plain) isn't eligible to play tomorrow. But the linebacker's still doing his part. He spent yesterday in Scottsdale, raising money for Easter Seals Massachusetts.
Matt of many talents
We knew
Sarah Silverman was funny, but who knew
Matt Damon could go toe to toe with the comedian? A new music video on YouTube is so hilarious we almost spat out our morning coffee. In it, Silverman breaks the news to S.O.
Jimmy Kimmel that she and Damon are - er, having a physical relationship. And who shows up to help make the point? Why it's Damon himself, who mugs, dances, and gamely gets jiggy. Silverman presented the highly bleeped bit during Kimmel's show Thursday night. It's all just a gag of course. The New Hampshire-bred Silverman and Kimmel have been an item for years. And Damon, well, the Cambridge actor has a future in stand-up if he tires of acting.
