While Pats QB Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are sunning themselves at the supermodel's surfside Costa Rican compound, Brady's ex is working. Well, sort of. Actress Bridget Moynahan, the mother of Brady's 6-month-old son, John, was on a beach in Venice, Calif., this week doing a photo shoot for an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. We'd say motherhood suits her.
Farrellys eye Borat
Could Sacha Baron Cohen be coming to Boston? With any luck, yes. Bobby and Peter Farrelly are about to cast their next flick, and the brothers have their eye on the "Borat" actor and fellow Brit Ricky Gervais. "That would be our dream cast," Peter Farrelly told us this week. The movie, which the siblings hope to begin shooting in Boston next fall, is called "Hall Pass." It's a comedy, of course, about two married men whose wives give them a week away from matrimony. "It's kind of a modern-day 'Seven Year Itch,' " said Farrelly, referring to the Billy Wilder film in which a faithful husband is tempted by a beautiful neighbor played by Marilyn Monroe. The Farrellys, whose credits include the comedy classics "Kingpin," "There's Something About Mary," and "Dumb and Dumber," haven't settled on any leading ladies for the film, but they do have at least one actress in mind. "We've been dying to work with Elizabeth Banks," said Peter. "She's gorgeous, but can also look ordinary." (In the movie, the wives figure that if their husbands don't have to behave themselves, neither do they.) After "Hall Pass," the Farrellys will make a 3-D movie of "The Three Stooges," which they plan to shoot in Rhode Island.Count Conan in
Normally, Conan O'Brien's averse to collecting awards and accolades. But the unpretentious talk show host is making a rare exception for the American Ireland Fund, which will honor the Brookline native with a fancy, $160-a-person fete next month at Cipriani 23d Street in New York. So why is O'Brien suddenly happy in the spotlight? Because the American Ireland Fund's writing a $10,000 check to Labels Are for Jars, which O'Brien and a few friends cofounded to raise money for the Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence. (One of the cofounders is new Sox backup first baseman Sean Casey.) "Conan almost never goes to those sorts of things," said Father Paul O'Brien, pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Lawrence and Conan's classmate at Harvard. "But they're giving the money to a cause that he believes in." In its first couple of years, Cor Unum has served more than 200,000 meals.Leo in the house; Twellman too
In town to shoot director Martin Scorsese's new movie, Leonardo DiCaprio attended last night's Celtics game as a guest of co-owner Bob Epstein. Also in attendance at the Celts-Cavaliers contest at TD Banknorth Garden was New England Revolution star Taylor Twellman, who sat courtside. . . . Wondering about that enormous "It's a Boy" banner on the Trans National Group building behind Fenway Park? Simple: Trans National founder Steve Belkin and his wife, Joan, just became first-time grandparents. Daughter Julie Belkin Rand and husband Michael last week welcomed Harrison Belkin Rand.
From Remdog to Nation prez
For all you folks who don't take this Red Sox Nation stuff seriously, here's a wake-up call: Jerry Remy was sworn in as president of Red Sox Nation yesterday by Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. For real. With one hand on a Major League baseball and one hand in the air, Remy solemnly swore to protect, preserve, and promote the great game of baseball. Also sworn in was vice president "Regular" Rob Crawford. "We had a good time," the ex-Sox second baseman and current NESN analyst told us. The brief - and bizarre - ceremony, attended by BoSox brass John Henry and Larry Lucchino, took place in Breyer's chambers. (The justice is a longtime Sox fan.) The 2007 champs were in D.C. yesterday to meet with President Bush.'Daily' dose of comedy
Ben Karlin is one funny guy. For much of the past 15 years, the Needham native's been writing and producing topical satire for "The Onion," "The Daily Show," and "The Colbert Report." So what's with the relationship humor in his new book "Things I've Learned From Women Who've Dumped Me"? "Everything was so intensely news-driven," says Karlin (inset), who'll be reading at the Brattle Theatre tomorrow night. "I wanted to see if I could perhaps exercise some of the smaller, weaker muscles in my comedic arsenal to see if they worked at all." Karlin said he's currently developing a show for HBO about an alien death cult and a movie about the world's most expensive bottle of wine, but we couldn't tell if he was serious. One thing we do know: Karlin really wants people to show up tomorrow. "Did I mention that we'll be giving away money at the show? You might want to put that in there," he said. "Someone's in line for a very healthy portion of rubles."Not quite a millionaire
Congrats to Globe senior assistant night editor David Yee, who won $25,000 on yesterday's epsiode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." At one point, Yee used a lifeline and called colleague Colis Ferguson, who fortunately bailed him out with the right answer. In the end, Yee was bounced by a question that required him to know the meaning of the word "vicennial." "It's such an arcane term," he said yesterday. Perhaps, but he now knows that vicennial means occurring every 20 years. And what'll he do with his winnings? "I'm going to go to Vegas and put it all on one number," he said. Did we mention he also has a sense of humor?Names can be reached at names@globe.com or at 617-929-8253.
