The actress becomes eligible for membership in AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and over, when she celebrates her birthday Nov. 22. "I want to be older," she tells the magazine. Students, space enthusiasts, politicians, and Buddhist monks paid respects yesterday in Sri Lanka to the late science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who died Wednesday at age 90 after suffering breathing problems. His remains were put on display for public viewing at his home in Colombo, the capital of his adopted country. A woman claims in a lawsuit that she was injured in a dash for seats at Oprah Winfrey's talk show in Chicago. Orit Greenberg's suit seeks $50,000 in damages. Greenberg claims Harpo Studios failed to control the audience on Dec. 5, 2006. The crowd allegedly pushed Greenberg down a flight of stairs, causing severe injuries. (AP) 'Jericho' truly gone
"Jericho," the low-rated series that was canceled after its first season but then was revived through fan support, is being dropped again, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said yesterday. The show will conclude Tuesday. Pamela Anderson's new husband agrees that their two-month marriage should be voided, according to court papers filed yesterday in Los Angeles. Rick Salomon agrees in papers responding to a filing by the "Baywatch" actress that the marriage should be annulled because of fraud, though neither set of documents elaborated. Salomon, who was previously married to actress Shannen Doherty for nine months, and Anderson were married Oct. 6 and separated Dec. 13. (AP) Beatles bash 'bootleg'
Lawyers for the Beatles sued yesterday to prevent the distribution of unreleased recordings purportedly made during Ringo Starr's first performance with the group at the Star Club in Hamburg in 1962. In the dispute between Apple Corps Ltd., the London company formed by the Beatles that helps guard their legacy, and Fuego Entertainment Inc. of Miami Lakes, Fla., Apple Corps claims that the songs were taped without the consent of the band. "This appears to us to be a garden-variety bootleg recording," said Paul LiCalsi, an attorney for Apple Corps. (AP) Fun, fun, fun again
Two former members of the Beach Boys settled a five-year legal dispute over use of the band's name. Al Jardine and Mike Love reached an agreement after a two-day conference. Details of the settlement weren't disclosed. Love sued Jardine in 2003, claiming he fronted a group that used various versions of the Beach Boys name.
