Campbell freed
Naomi Campbell was released on bail yesterday in London after a spat with a police officer at Heathrow Airport's troubled new Terminal 5, where one of her bags was lost. Campbell was told to report to a police station in late May. The British supermodel was arrested late Thursday on suspicion of assaulting an officer - by spitting on him - after police were called to a disturbance at the airport. (AP)
Cage settles suit
Nicolas Cage has settled a libel suit in London against Kathleen Turner, who claimed in her autobiography that he had twice been arrested for drunken driving and had stolen a dog. Neither of the stars attended the hearing, where Turner's lawyer, book publisher, and the Daily Mail, which ran an excerpt, all apologized to Cage and offered to make a donation to a charity of his choice. Cage's lawyer Simon Smith dismissed as "utter falsity" a section of Turner's book "Send Yourself Roses," describing working with Cage on "Peggy Sue Got Married" in 1986. In it, Turner, 53, said her costar, 44, was "arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, for stealing a dog. He'd come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket." (AP)
Wedding buzz
Rumors of a marriage between hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and singer-actress Beyonce drew swarms of media to the street outside his New York penthouse last night. A parade of sport utility vehicles with tinted windows was seen coming and going from the garage late in the afternoon, one of them carrying two people dressed in chef's uniforms carrying large, square, white boxes on their laps. And men dressed in tuxedos were spotted on the roof of the building, where a white tent was erected. As night fell, word spread that celebrity guests had been spotted arriving by car, including Beyonce's former Destiny's Child cohort Kelly Rowland and actress Gwyneth Paltrow. (Reuters)Eh, yah?
