Houdini remembered
The long-hyped Cirque du Soleil-Criss Angel production now has a name. Producers say "Criss Angel Believe" will open Sept. 12 at the Luxor hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Previews begin Sept. 1. Producers say the show takes its name from a Harry Houdini legend. The magician and escape artist is said to have designated a code word for communicating with him after his death. The word was "believe." . . . Houdini, meanwhile, will be the subject of a Broadway musical that will open in New York in spring 2010, producers Scott Sanders and David Rockwell announced yesterday. "Houdini" will feature music by Danny Elfman, who has scored such Tim Burton films as "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands," and lyrics by David Yazbek, who wrote the scores for the Broadway musicals "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "The Full Monty." The book for "Houdini" is by Kurt Andersen, an editor and cofounder of Spy magazine. (AP)
