Keanu Reeves thinks people should be able to carry guns.

The 43-year-old actor used firearms to get into character for his role as police officer Tom Ludlow in new movie 'Street Kings', and believes citizens should have the right to protect themselves.

He said: "Should citizens be able to have a weapon? Yes, why not? I am not fundamentally against citizens having access to a weapon, but I think that it has complications, the use of it. It's probably not the wisest thing. Personally I don't own a weapon."

The 'Matrix' star - who is best known for his roles in action movies -also had to train hard to get into physical and mental shape for his role as Ludlow.

While the film's director David Ayers was supportive of the idea, he was worried about the possibility of Keanu getting hurt.

Ayers said: "I was like, 'Please don't let his nose get broken before we shoot'."
