Claire Danes is the new face of Gucci's fine jewellery advertising campaign.

The 'Stardust' actress will replace Drew Barrymore in the campaign which is set to launch this autumn.

Gucci creative director Frida Giannini said: "Claire Danes is a modern icon. For me she is one of the most interesting young actresses on the international scene. She is very natural, fresh and has a carefree attitude that is reflected in the roles she has chosen.

"Claire's sensual, confident beauty and her passionate, independent and strong character embodies today's Gucci woman."

The 29-year-old actress - who can next be seen starring alongside Zac Efron and Ben Chaplin in period drama 'Me and Orson Welles' - is "excited" about being involved with the Italian fashion house.

She said: "I am honoured to be working with Gucci on their jewellery campaign. Frida Giannini is a very inspiring and creative woman. Her vision is extraordinary and I am excited to be a part of it."

This isn't the first time Claire has turned her hand to modelling.

Last year, she appeared in a TV commercial for fashion company GAP with actor Patrick Wilson.
